All of us need the protection of Health Insurance. Our philosophy is that it is best to have this type of insurance for protection against catastrophic illness. We also believe that it makes sense economically for the policyholder to take the responsibility of paying for the routine or alternative services that may be desired. We recommend plans that allow you the most freedom in choosing the doctor or hospital you prefer. Thus we very rarely recommend an HMO.

The truth is two different companies, Blue Cross and Blue Shield dominate the market in California. Depending on your age and in which county you live, one may be less expensive than the other. Therefore, price is often the major consideration when deciding between these companies. You can enroll via the Internet at Blue Cross or Blue Shield or we can help you fill out forms and answer all your questions.

There is a new form of Health Insurance that offers lower rates and actually gives you tax savings to pay for the health services that you now use. These are called Health Savings Accounts(HSAs).

Health Savings Accounts Basics (HSAs) HSAs are a combination of a high-deductible health insurance policy and a special account where you place your contributions. These contributions are from pre-tax dollars, and can be made by you or your employer. Your HSA account is controlled and owned by you. You can accumulate your contributions from year to year. The money that you use for qualified medical expenses is tax-free and the accumulated capital, interest and dividends are tax-free until retirement. Both Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield offer HSA compatible plans.

If you are familiar with IRA, Keogh and 401(K) plans, HSAs operate in much the same manner, with several important differences. The most important difference is that money placed into an HSA can be withdrawn at any time, before as well as after retirement, if the money is used for medical care expenses. Equally as important, money not spent in one year may be rolled over to the next year and even beyond age 65.
